Pirate
Brides walk all planks – from small intimate functions
to a crowd of thousands. With a repertoire spanning acoustic
originals, bluegrass, contemporary folk and old -time, these
seasoned performers combine great four-part vocals with tasty
guitar, accordion, mandolin, clawhammer banjo, autoharp and
double bass. Audiences love their foot-tapping, infectious
and unpretentious approach, leaving the gig well satisfied
and humming the songs as they stroll back into the real world.
Since 2002 Pirate
Brides have been a well-loved fixture in the Brisbane acoustic
music scene, playing at folk clubs, festivals, fetes, concerts,
sessions, live radio, private functions. and of course there
are the ship boardings… The band’s home
stomping ground is Brisbane’s “MadAss Acoustic Music
Club” at the Muddy Farmer Hotel in Annerley, where they are
regular players both as Pirate Brides and as backing musicians for
other acts. Elsewhere they are in demand as studio and guest musicians
and have supported, as Pirate Brides or with their other bands, many
great national and international touring artists including The Fureys,
Four Men & A Dog, Battlefield Band, Geraldine Doyle, Truckstop
Honeymoon, and Foster and Allen.
Festival
favourites,
the Brides continue to entertain audiences at Port Fairy, Woodford,
The National, Majors Creek, Palm Creek, Dorrigo, Redlands Bluegrass,
Imbil, Yag’ubi, Folkies O&N (Brisbane), and ABOFOTS
(Maleny). Their third CD “Broken Hearts Ride Free” was
released in Jan 2008. “Cutlass Wedding” (2005) still
enjoys airplay on ABC radio.
Salty, seasoned, irreverent… Pirate
Brides add an infectious love of fun to an accomplished performance.
